SoftBank Group lenders are asking more banks to join the Japanese company's $40 billion loan backing its investment in Microsoft-backed (MSFT) OpenAI, Bloomberg News reported Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

Additional lenders being invited to join as sub-underwriters in the deal, which has recently entered a "soft launch" phase, with those interested needed to commit roughly $5 billion each, the unnamed sources told the news outlet.

Microsoft has invested billions into ChatGPT maker OpenAI.

OpenAI and Softbank didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
