Google, Meta, Snap Summoned by UK PM Over Online Child-Safety Measures

MT Newswires Live04-16

Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google, Meta Platforms (META), and Snap (SNAP) have been summoned by the UK prime minister to push for stronger measures to protect children online, the prime minister's office said Wednesday.

Senior leaders from Meta, X, Snap, TikTok, and Google, which owns YouTube, will be questioned by Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

The UK government is considering measures including a possible ban on social media use for under-16s and tighter controls on online features and artificial intelligence tools, Alliance News reported.

Some companies have already introduced safeguards, but the prime minister said further action is needed, according to the government's press release.
