S&P 500, Nasdaq Composite Set Fresh Closing Highs -- Market Talk

Dow Jones04:04

1604 ET - The S&P 500 and Nasdaq extend their recent winning streaks, closing at fresh highs. The Dow Industrials, meanwhile, edges lower under pressure from losses by Caterpillar, Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan. Technology and consumer discretionary shares drove the gains, while industrials and materials lost the most as investors took on riskier assets on hopes over the strength of the U.S. economy and possible progress in the war against Iran. DJIA falls 72 points, or 0.2%, to 48463, while the S&P climbs 0.8% to 7022 and the Nasdaq gains 1.6% to 24016. (patrick.sullivan@wsj.com)
