MW Quantum stocks extend their gains. Why Nvidia's new models could give the industry a boost.

Recent advancements from Nvidia could make it easier for quantum companies to achieve commercial milestones
Nvidia announced the release of Ising, a new quantum model, on Tuesday.
Nvidia has shown its ability to make or break quantum stocks. For now, quantum investors are loving what the company has to say about the nascent industry's potential.
Quantum stocks are furthering their gains on Wednesday as investors unpack Nvidia's recent announcement of Ising, an open-source quantum artificial-intelligence model. That caused quantum stocks to pop on Tuesday as well.
Shares of IonQ $(IONQ)$ and D-Wave Quantum (QBTS) were both up 15% in Wednesday morning action, while shares of Rigetti Computing (RGTI) were up 10%.
TD Cowen analyst Krish Sankar wrote in a note that he sees Nvidia's new model as a key accelerant for the commercialization of the quantum industry.
He said that Ising's two AI models, Ising Calibration and Ising Decoder, tackle major challenges that could otherwise impede the creation of quantum systems. Namely, these models employ AI to calibrate quantum processing units and design algorithms for correcting errors.
Sankar added that quantum error correction, or QEC, is a "fundamental" problem and is considered the "next hurdle" that all quantum companies must clear.

Nvidia and the quantum industry have had a rocky relationship. After CEO Jensen Huang mused in early 2025 that "very simple quantum computers" could be perhaps two decades out, quantum stocks took a tumble. But the company has since positioned itself as more of a partner to quantum players.
B. Riley Securities analyst Craig Ellis told MarketWatch that after Nvidia released quantum models Cuda-Q and NVQLink last year, he had been expecting further developments in 2026. The Ising models for QEC calibration and error correction could enable more advanced AI workloads and become a big catalyst for quantum adoption over time.
