PepsiCo 1Q Was a Layup, Not a Slam Dunk -- Market Talk

Dow Jones04-17

1134 ET - PepsiCo's recent quarter marks another step in the right direction, UBS analysts say in a research note. The company's turnaround of its North American food business continues to progress, as volumes and organic sales both returned to growth. Looking forward, though, PepsiCo maintains guidance given uncertainties surrounding input costs and consumer demand. So even though quarterly results were solid, the analysts say the readout won't change the minds of investors who want assurance that recent improvement in trends can accelerate from here. "In an environment where visibility is limited we can understand why investors are taking a wait and see approach, but we think the actions are beginning to show signs of progress," they write.
