U.S. natural gas inventories likely saw an above-average build last week as mild spring weather kept a lid on heating demand, according to a Wall Street Journal survey of analysts.

Gas stored in underground facilities is expected to have increased by 94 billion cubic feet to 2,064 Bcf in the week ended April 17, according to the average estimate of 12 analysts, brokers and traders. Estimates range from an injection of 62 Bcf to an injection of 115 Bcf.

The expected increase compares with a five-year average injection for the week of 64 Bcf, and would widen the surplus over the 2021-2025 average to 138 Bcf from 108 Bcf the week before.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration is scheduled to release the weekly storage data on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. ET.
