China has established green fuel production capacity of around 8 million mt of oil equivalent per year in response to the Middle East supply risk, said the National Energy Administration on Monday.
The country's green fuel production has expanded from traditional ethanol and biodiesel to green ammonia, green methanol and sustainable aviation fuel.
According to the NEA, annual production capacity currently stands at:
--Green ammonia: around 700,000 mt
--Green methanol: around 380,000 mt
--SAF: 1.7 million mt
The NEA also highlighted China's focus on three key priorities:
--Ensuring energy security by maintaining stable domestic oil and gas supply;
--Accelerating the construction of major energy projects to support national fixed asset investment; and
--Promoting the green and low-carbon transformation of the energy sector.
In the fossil fuels sector, China's crude oil production from January to March reached 54.8 million mt, up 1.3% year on year.
Crude oil imports during the first three months of 2026 totaled 146.83 million mt, an increase of 8.9% year on year. Crude oil processing volume for the same period hit 181.7 million mt.
