Otsuka Holdings' Profit Rises 16% in Q1

Otsuka Holdings' (TYO:4578) profit attributable to owners of the parent climbed 16% to 98.3 billion yen for the first quarter from nearly 85 billion yen a year earlier.

The pharmaceutical company's basic earnings per share increased to 186.31 yen from 158.57 yen a year ago, according to a Tokyo bourse filing on Tuesday.

Revenue increased by 8.2% to 630.3 billion yen for the three months ended March 31 from 582.8 billion yen in the prior year.

For the year ending Dec. 31, the company expects attributable profit of 265 billion yen, basic EPS of 504.94 yen, and revenue of 2.520 trillion yen.

Otsuka Holdings plans to pay interim and year-end dividends of 70 yen, each, for the year, which is the same amount paid in the year-ago period.
