The Magnificent 7 tech stocks will play a starring role this coming week, with first-quarter earnings due from Apple, Amazon, Microsoft and others. Four of them will report on Wednesday, when the Federal Reserve is expected to vote to hold interest rates steady in what could be Jerome Powell's final meeting as Fed chair. Traders will watch how the Fed interprets the latest economic data and the impact of the war in Iran.
Saturday, April 25
-- Events: President Trump is scheduled to deliver keynote remarks at a cryptocurrency conference at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, hours before his expected appearance at the White House Correspondents' Dinner in Washington.
Monday, April 27
-- Earnings: Verizon, Nucor, Cadence Design Systems, Domino's, Bed Bath & Beyond
-- Events: King Charles and Queen Camilla arrive in the U.S. for a four-day state visit that will take them to Washington, New York and Virginia. They'll meet with President Trump on Monday.
-- Central banks: The Bank of Japan meets on rates late in the U.S. day.
Tuesday, April 28
-- Earnings: Visa, T-Mobile, Coca-Cola, Starbucks, General Motors, Robinhood, Mondelez, Spotify, UPS, Hilton, Corning, Sherwin-Williams, Kimberly-Clark, Caesars Entertainment
-- Economic data: S&P Global will release its Case-Shiller home price index for February. The Conference Board will publish the result of its April survey of consumer confidence.
-- Events: King Charles will address a joint session of the U.S. Congress.
Wednesday, April 29
-- Mag-7 Tech earnings: Alphabet, Microsoft, Amazon and Meta all report after the bell.
-- Other earnings: Qualcomm, Ford, General Dynamics, Regeneron, Chipotle, Allstate, eBay, Humana, Phillips 66, Avis
-- Economic data: The Census Bureau will release its report on durable-goods orders for March, along with its February and March release of new residential construction, after February's report was delayed. The bureau will also publish advance data on wholesale inventories for March. The Energy Information Administration will publish its weekly petroleum status report.
-- IPOs: Bill Ackman is expected to simultaneously take public a new stock-picking fund, Pershing Square USA, and his hedge-fund firm, Pershing Square.
-- Fed meeting: The Fed is projected to hold interest rates steady at its meeting, which ends at 2 p.m. ET. Chair Jerome Powell will hold a press conference at 2:30 p.m. It could be his last meeting as chair if Kevin Warsh is confirmed as the new chair by the next meeting in June.
-- Other central banks: Bank of Canada interest rate announcement
Thursday, April 30
-- Economic data: Initial first-quarter gross-domestic product, weekly jobless claims, and the Chicago business barometer are scheduled for release. Also, the Bureau of Economic Analysis will release the Fed's preferred measure of inflation: The personal-consumption expenditures index for March. The EIA will publish the weekly natural gas storage report, the Conference Board will release its leading economic index measurement for February, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics will share the employment cost index.
