Fed Set to Stay on Hold This Week, Rate Cut Possible Later in 2026 -- Market Talk

Dow Jones13:15

0515 GMT - The Federal Reserve is expected to keep the fed funds target rate range unchanged amid elevated inflation at this week's meeting, but a rate cut is still likely this year, Barclays analysts say in a note. "The Fed is positioned to remain on hold amid elevated uncertainty, as resilient demand and still-high inflation argue for patience, with policymakers signaling less confidence in further rate cuts near term," they say. They still expect the Fed to gain enough confidence by September to begin easing if inflation cools as projected, they say. "We still expect it to cut this year." Money markets price in 10 basis points of Fed rate cuts for 2026, according to LSEG. (emese.bartha@wsj.com)
