Ford Motor Company (F) is in early discussions with the U.S. government on potential defense projects, Chief Executive Jim Farley said.
Speaking on the company's earnings call on Wednesday, Farley said Ford is "in early discussions... on some defense related projects," though he declined to provide specifics.
He added that the company has historically stepped in to support national efforts, referencing past contributions during crises.
Farley also emphasized Ford's broader strategic importance to U.S. industrial policy, particularly in strengthening domestic supply chains.
He said the company is playing a key role as an "anchor customer" in efforts to onshore critical materials and components, including semiconductors, batteries and rare earths.
