Middle East Conflict Adds 27 Billion Euros to EU Fossil Fuel Bill, Von Der Leyen Says -- Market Talk

Dow Jones04-29

1347 GMT - The EU's bill for fossil fuel imports has increased by more than 27 billion euros ($31.62 billion) in 60 days of the Middle East conflict, European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen says during a European Parliament debate Wednesday. The war's consequences could echo for years to come, she says. "This is the second major energy crisis in the short span of four years. The lesson should be clear for all: in a turbulent world like ours, we simply cannot be overdependent on imported energy." (edith.hancock@wsj.com)
