Asian Currencies Consolidate, May Be Weighed by Higher Oil Prices -- Market Talk
Dow Jones09:51
0151 GMT - Asian currencies consolidate against the dollar, but may be weighed by higher oil prices. "With U.S. and Iran locked in a prolonged standoff, the continued disruption to energy flows through the Strait of Hormuz [is] pushing up oil prices," MUFG Bank's Lloyd Chan says in a research report. This adds "downward pressure on oil-sensitive regional currencies," which include Philippine peso and Thai baht, the senior currency analyst says. The dollar declines 0.3% to 61.383 pesos, but is 0.1% higher at 32.75 baht, LSEG data show. (ronnie.harui@wsj.com)
