Barbie Gets Stamp of Approval from USPS -- Market Talk

Dow Jones05-01

1031 ET - After decades in dream houses, Barbie is moving into America's mailboxes. The dolls this summer will deliver first-class fashion, as the U.S. Postal Service is gearing up to release a set of stamps featuring the iconic toys. The set of stamps will showcase 10 of the more than 250 careers that Barbie has represented over her more than 65-year history, USPS says. The Post Office collaborated with Mattel on the designs of the stamps, which will employ a rarely used format that is one-third taller than the usual vertical commemorative stamp and further engrave Barbie into the upper echelons of American history and culture. Ethel Kessler, an art director at USPS, says the team approached the project "with a spirit of fun," using bright colors and lots of "Barbie Pink" to evoke a feeling of joy. (connor.hart@wsj.com)
