Communications-services ticked down as traders retreated from high-risk sector due to doubts about the outlook for the Strait of Hormuz.
The average price of a gallon of gasoline in the U.S. is around $4.55, according to AAA.
A failure to reopen the Strait could drive fuel prices still higher, eating into consumer budgets for streaming services and other communications. Shares of Netflix ticked up, but are down 10% in the last month.
Warner Bros Discovery posted a huge loss in the first quarter after recording a $2.8 billion charge on its books for the termination fee paid to Netflix during a bidding war for the media and entertainment company.
