Gyms Flag Consumer Class Divide -- Market Talk

1411 ET - The K-shaped economy is coming for the fitness industry. While budget gyms such as Planet Fitness are flagging consumer weakness, the higher-end Life Time said it isn't feeling the strain. "We're not seeing any negative pressure," Chief Executive Bahram Akradi said this week on an analyst call. "The customer, the demand is strong for the clubs." Meanwhile, Planet Fitness said its membership growth was weaker than expected as consumers aren't responding well to its shift away from affordability. (katherine.hamilton@wsj.com)
