Woodside Energy Group (ASX:WDS) said the proposed Browse offshore gas resource to North West Shelf project could contribute a long-term uplift of more than AU$141 billion in gross domestic product (GDP) across Australia and more than AU$56 billion in taxes, including AU$19.8 billion in petroleum resource rent tax, citing an economic impact assessment by Deloitte Access Economics, according to a Monday statement.
The modeling found that it would contribute a long-term uplift of around AU$147 billion in gross state product for Western Australia. It could lead to up to 4,760 direct and indirect full-time equivalent jobs across Australia at peak operations.
The Browse is proposed to deliver natural gas from the Calliance, Torosa, and Brecknock fields to the existing Karratha gas plant via an around 900-kilometer pipeline, connected to two floating production storage and offloading facilities. The project has a forecast production capacity of 11.4 million tonnes per annum.
The firm's shares rose 1% in recent trading on Monday.
