Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc. $(MUFG)$ has agreed with Google LLC to form a strategic partnership on the utilization of artificial intelligence in its M-tto personal financial services platform, the Japanese company has announced.
The financial group aims to expand customer engagement by providing support for everyday activities with the help of AI, such as providing advice on online shopping ranging from product selection to cost-effective payment methods.
According to the announcement, M-tto will utilize Google's Gemini generative AI model and online functions. M-tto provides services related to savings, asset building and other activities.
When selecting products, customers receive tailored information based on their purchase history and registered information, such as age. For example, when buying baby formula, users are notified of products suited to their child's developmental stage and how regularly they should be purchased. When customers provide a photo of a product, the AI responds with websites offering the cheapest prices, while listing available payment methods and point reward rates.
The financial group is also considering adding a feature linked to Google's Fitbit app, which measures and records health data -- such as heart rate and stress levels -- under which customers may receive preferential interest rates on mortgages and deposits or earn reward points depending on their health status.
"We will not confine M-tto to the realm of finance," said Tadashi Yamamoto, head of MUFG's Retail and Digital Business Group, at a press conference held Thursday. "Instead, we will develop it into a platform where customers can naturally encounter [our] financial services in their everyday lives."
