Hassett Suggests Powell May Step Down After Fed Inspector-General Report -- Market Talk

Dow Jones05-11

0907 ET - White House adviser Kevin Hassett is asked on CNBC how long he thinks Jerome Powell will stay at the Fed as a governor even after Kevin Warsh takes over as chair. Hassett says that he thinks Powell may feel assured he can step aside after the Fed inspector-general completes an investigation of the Fed's building renovation project. "I would guess that the off-ramp for Jay would be if the inspector general's report comes out soon and he's happy with the results," Hasset says. (matt.grossman@wsj.com; @mattgrossman)
