Microsoft (MSFT) CEO Satya Nadella expressed concerns in 2022 about OpenAI becoming more dominant than Microsoft, according to testimony and internal emails revealed in Elon Musk's trial against OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, CNBC reported on Wednesday.
"I don't want to be IBM and OpenAI to be Microsoft," Nadella wrote in an April 2022 email, referencing how Microsoft overtook IBM after supplying software for IBM computers.
Nadella testified that Microsoft wanted "real agency at every layer of the stack" and viewed intellectual property rights tied to OpenAI as critical as the company deepened its AI partnership.
