A Panamax-class tanker is loading at Kharg Island, marking the first confirmed loading at the crucial Iranian oil terminal since May 7, maritime-data company Windward said Thursday. Windward said it had captured imagery of the vessel alongside the island's east terminal. The company said it had identified about 20 dark tankers idling in staging zones nearby.
Kharg Island, a tiny piece of land in the northern Persian Gulf, is the core of Iran's oil industry, storing and loading most of its crude oil exports. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Thursday that Iran hadn't loaded any tankers at the island for three days, as Tehran struggles to offload oil it hasn't been able to export. Panamax tankers are smaller than some other oil-transporting vessels, and carry roughly 400,000 to 550,000 barrels of oil.
