United Airlines Holdings (UAL) said Thursday it will launch new flights to Japan this winter, including the first nonstop service from the continental US to Sapporo and a new Chicago-Tokyo Narita route.
The airline said it will begin three-times-weekly seasonal flights between San Francisco and Sapporo from Dec. 11, marking the only nonstop connection on that route.
It will also introduce daily year-round service between Chicago O'Hare and Tokyo-Narita starting Oct. 24, becoming the only U.S. carrier offering nonstop service on that route, it added.
United said the expansion strengthens its position as the largest US airline serving Japan, offering more connections across Asia through its network and partner airlines.
The new routes will be operated using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft and will be available for booking later Thursday, United said.
