Interim Atlanta Fed President Backs Caution on Rates -- Market Talk

Dow Jones05-13

1355 ET - The Atlanta Fed is without a permanent president as the reserve bank seeks a successor to Raphael Bostic, who stepped down earlier this year at the end of his term. The interim president, Cheryl Venable, writes in a new essay that caution is the right policy on interest rates while the Fed navigates elevated inflation and a labor market that may still be delicate. "I think the optimal policy approach in the face of risks to both sides of the dual mandate is to wait and see," writes Venable, a career employee of the Fed system. The Atlanta Fed doesn't have a vote on monetary policy this year, under the voting roster that rotates slots among the 12 reserve banks annually. A search for Bostic's successor is underway.
