1530 ET - Versant Media's 1Q results beat Wall Street's expectations on both the top and bottom lines, primarily driven by a major licensing deal for the reality show "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," TD Cowen analysts say in a note. The company's revenue was $1.69 billion, ahead of estimates of $1.61 billion, with nearly all of that upside due to content licensing, which included a particularly large sale of the show, the analysts say. The company's content licensing and other revenue came in at $121 million, more than doubling year over year and significantly beating the analysts' own estimate of $54 million, they say. However, such a lift from the Kardashian deal is atypical for the company, given its very consistently averaged around $50 million a quarter in licensing rights for several years, they say.
