Iran's oil storage has filled up and Tehran will need to shut down oil production, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said.
Following the U.S. blockade on Iranian shipments, the conflict has hinged on a key question: how long before Iran runs out of room to store the oil it can no longer export. Some analysts say that Iran still has a few more weeks of storage capacity and that Tehran has begun to slowly reduce output to manage the logjam.
In an interview with CNBC's "Squawk Box," Bessent said Iran hasn't been able to load tankers at its main oil terminal, Kharg Island, for the past three days as the U.S. blockade prevents tankers from entering and leaving the Persian Gulf. In the first month of its blockade, U.S. forces have redirected 70 ships they say were headed to or from Iranian ports.
