Toyota Motor is considering investing $2 billion to add a vehicle assembly line near its manufacturing facility in San Antonio, Texas.

The Japanese carmaker plans to begin construction later this year, with production targeted to start in 2030, according to application documents filed by a company unit for a Texas state economic-incentive program.

The project would create 2000 jobs, the filing with the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts showed.

"Our production philosophy is to build where we sell and buy where we build. We regularly evaluate our manufacturing footprint to ensure we remain competitive and aligned with customer demand," Toyota said in a statement.

The Japanese carmaker has been taking steps to expand production capacity in the U.S. In March, the company said it would invest $1 billion in its Kentucky and Indiana manufacturing operations. The investment was part of a plan announced in November to invest up to $10 billion in the U.S. over the next five years.

Toyota also said in November that it would invest more than $900 million to expand hybrid-vehicle production in the U.S. to meet growing demand.

Toyota remained the world's largest carmaker in 2025, helped by sales growth in the U.S. and Japan even as Trump administration tariffs disrupted the industry.
