Tesla (TSLA) chief Elon Musk said he expects fully self-driving cars without human safety monitors to become more widely used in the US later this year, marking an expansion of the company's autonomous driving ambitions, Reuters reported Monday.
Musk said Tesla already operates driverless vehicles in parts of Texas and plans to expand the service nationwide, adding that autonomous systems could handle most US driving within the next decade, speaking at the Smart Mobility Summit in Tel Aviv.
Musk also highlighted broader progress across his companies, including SpaceX's work on reusable rocket systems and upcoming Neuralink trials of its Blindsight device to restore vision, the report added.
Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
