The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is considering helping ships pass through the Strait of Hormuz if it doesn't get unblocked by early July, Bloomberg reported Tuesday, citing a senior official in the military alliance.

Several members of NATO support the idea, but it doesn't have the necessary unanimous support yet, the report said, citing a diplomat from a NATO country.

"As the Secretary General noted last week in Bucharest, it is important that the Strait is open, and there are initiatives, including from the United States as well as through the coalition led by France and the UK, to support freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz," a NATO official told MT Newswires via email. "That said, as SACEUR also made clear this afternoon, there is no planning underway for a NATO mission."
