Meituan's Long-Term Earnings Prospects Seem Rosy -- Market Talk

Dow Jones05-18

0825 GMT - Meituan's long-term earnings prospects seem rosy to Morningstar's Chelsey Tam, who cites its network and loyal base of core users. She expects rival Alibaba Group to prioritize investments in artificial intelligence over quick commerce, as it is unlikely to be able to maintain high investments in both segments in the medium term, the analyst says in a note. This could benefit Meituan's quick-commerce segment and could offer more clarity on the timing of its earnings recovery, she adds. Morningstar retains its HK$85.70 fair-value estimate on Meituan's shares, noting that they appear attractive. Shares closed 0.7% lower at HK$82.15. (megan.cheah@wsj.com)
