U.K. Inflation Data Lowers Possibility of BOE Rate Rise in June -- Market Talk

Dow Jones16:07

0807 GMT - U.K. inflation data for April was weaker than expected, lowering the probability of the Bank of England raising interest rates at the next policy meeting in June. Annual headline inflation slowed to 2.8% in April, from 3.3% in March, below the consensus forecast of 3.0% by economists in a WSJ poll. Wednesday's inflation data combined with the weak U.K. jobs data released this week reduce the chances of aggressive rate rises by the BOE, ING's James Smith says in a note. Investors price in a 19% chance of a BOE rate hike in June, down from a 42% probability priced in prior to this week's U.K. jobs and inflation data, LSEG data show. (miriam.mukuru@wsj.com)
