Nordson raised its fiscal-year guidance as profit and revenue increased in its latest quarter, driven by growth in each of its segments.

The precision equipment maker said Wednesday it now expects sales of $2.93 billion to $3.01 billion for the full year, up from a prior range of $2.86 billion to $2.98 billion. The company now projects adjusted earnings per share of $11.30 to $11.80, up from $11 to $11.60 previously.

For the current quarter, the company forecasts sales of $760 million to $790 million and adjusted earnings per share of $2.95 to $3.15. Analysts polled by FactSet project sales of $766.7 million and adjusted earnings of $3.04 a share.

Chief Executive Officer Sundaram Nagarajan said Nordson is seeing ongoing momentum across its end markets.

"Supported by robust order entry and backlog, we expect this momentum to continue," Nagarajan said.

For the fiscal second quarter, Nordson posted a profit of $117.3 million, or $2.09 a share, compared with $112.4 million, or $1.97 a share, a year earlier. The recent quarter's figure includes a one-time, non-cash pension settlement charge and a non-cash loss on minority investments, the company said.

Adjusted earnings per share were $2.86, compared with estimates of $2.82 a share according to analysts polled by FactSet.

Revenue rose 8.5% to $740.8 million, compared with analyst estimates of $728.8 million.

Industrial precision sales rose 9.9%, helped in part by improving industrial coating and polymer processing systems demand. Medical and fluid solutions revenue rose 5%, while advanced technology solutions sales gained 10%.

The company said it acquired CapstanAG Systems, a precision agriculture company in North America, in March. The company said the acquisition, while small, will allow it to grow its precision agriculture business with mid-tier original equipment manufacturers in North America.
