GSK's (GSK) pooled data from two phase 3 clinical trials showed that experimental medicine bepirovirsen achieved a 19% functional cure response rate in individuals with chronic hepatitis B, the drugmaker said Thursday.

The therapy reached a 26% cure rate among patients exhibiting lower baseline viral activity compared with no cures in the placebo group, the company said.

GSK said it anticipates regulatory approvals in Q3.

An exploratory evaluation also indicated nearly half of the participants maintained low surface antigen levels a year after finishing the regimen, GSK said.

The medication demonstrated a tolerable safety profile during the trials, with common side effects including temporary liver enzyme elevation and localized injection site pain, GSK said.
