Scotiabank Logs 2Q Earnings Beat But Not Seeing Balance Sheet Growth -- Market Talk
Dow Jones05-27
0937 ET - Bank of Nova Scotia's 2Q adjusted earnings beat expectations, rising 16% on-year. TD Cowen's Mario Mendonca is positive on the numbers, coming away feeling what he says is slightly better about near-term earnings momentum but noting an absence of balance sheet growth remains an issue. Scotiabank notched beats in Canadian banking and international operations, though the analyst says capital markets was slightly softer than expected despite an 11% rise in EPS. Capital generation overall was good, and the bank continues to buy back stock, Mendonca says. (robb.stewart@wsj.com)
