Nvidia on Friday posted a cryptic social media post that seemed to give credence to rumors that the company will make a chip for Windows PCs and announce it at the chipmaker's GTC Taipei convention next week.

The post read "A new era of PC," and then listed two numbers which appear to be the coordinates of the Taipei Music Center. That's where Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang will deliver the keynote address for the convention, which starts on Monday, and is taking place during the larger annual COMPUTEX gathering. Huang's presentation is slated to begin on Monday at 11 a.m. Taipei time, which is Sunday at 11 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time.

Nvidia did not respond to a request for comment.

A Microsoft Windows social media account also posted the same message.

Microsoft and Qualcomm have been working to supplant PC chips made by Intel and Advanced Micro Devices with ones built around technology from Arm. Laptops featuring Qualcomm's Arm-based Snapdragon X PC chips are already for sale, and laptops featuring Nvidia chips may join them soon.

These companies -- and PC makers such as Dell, HP Inc, and Samsung Electronics -- are trying to match the success Apple has had after it replaced Intel chips with its own homegrown Arm-based chips, the Apple Silicon M-series. The move has given Apple's Mac computers an edge over comparatively priced Windows PCs in performance and battery life -- and Windows PC makers would like to duplicate that user experience.

Nvidia already sells the DGX Spark, a desktop workstation for artificial-intelligence engineers that costs $4,699, but the upcoming announcement may be for reasonably-priced PCs.
