Airbnb is offering a paid insurance option for some of its hosts that covers income loss from unexpected events.
The online marketplace for short-term rentals said Wednesday the offering aims to provide U.S. hosts with a financial safety net when crises--like a blizzards, natural disasters or a local emergencies--force them to pause hosting.
The plan, offered in partnership with digital insurance company MIC Global, would provide a payout that is calculated using each listing's historical average earnings, Airbnb said.
The insurance is available in 45 U.S. states, with plans to expand to all 50 states in early 2027. To be eligible for the program, hosts must have at least one year of experience on the platform, and have up to five listings with more than 50 nights reserved on a listing in the past year.
