U.S. natural gas inventories likely saw a triple-digit increase last week, widening slightly the storage surplus over the five-year average, according to a Wall Street Journal survey of analysts.

Natural gas held in underground facilities probably rose by 105 billion cubic feet to 2,588 Bcf in the week ended May 29, according to the average estimate of 12 analysts, brokers and traders. Estimates range from an injection of 91 Bcf to an injection of 131 Bcf.

The expected injection is modestly larger than the 101 Bcf five-year average for the week, and would increase the surplus above the 2021-2025 average to 148 Bcf from 144 Bcf the week before. It would leave stocks 7 Bcf above their year-earlier level.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration is scheduled to release natural gas storage data on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. EDT.
