1145 GMT - British American Tobacco's latest update points to a weaker-than-expected performance in Asia, which eclipsed strong momentum in the U.S., Bank of America's Bastien Agaud and Andrea Pistacchi say in a research note. While the performance of vapor products in the U.S. was positive, the U.K. cigarette maker was hit by weakness in its Asia, Pacific, Middle East and Africa segment mainly due to Japan and Bangladesh, the analysts say. This likely explains why the company didn't raise guidance, according to Bank of America. "We also believe management is opting to remain cautious at this stage, as elevated commodity prices are likely to weigh on consumer sentiment" in the second half, the analysts say. Shares fall 2.9%.
