Major Japanese convenience store chain operator FamilyMart Co. installed its first ATMs of Seven Bank Ltd., an affiliate of the 7-Eleven chain's operator group, at a store in Tokyo on Monday.

FamilyMart plans to replace its about 16,000 ATMs currently installed at stores nationwide with Seven Bank ATMs, allowing customers to add money to their electronic money balance, conduct facial recognition transactions and perform other tasks.

The exterior of the ATMs features a FamilyMart-style design with green accents, rather than the red of conventional Seven Bank ATMs. The functions are the same as other Seven Bank ATMs, and government services such as the receipt of benefit payments are also available. FamilyMart's smartphone payment app FamiPay will be added to the list of supported electronic money options.

"These ATMs offer a variety of functions and will dramatically raise the level of our services," said FamilyMart President Tatsuo Odani at an event to unveil the first ATMs on the day.

Meanwhile, Seven Bank President Masaaki Matsuhashi expressed an intention to expand collaboration to other financial business operations.
