Uber Technologies said it is cutting 23% of the jobs in its human resources and culture division.
The cuts, which will affect a part of the People and Places department that includes recruitment and workplace facilities, represent less than 1% of Uber's 34,000 workers, an Uber spokesperson said.
In an internal note to employees, chief corporate affairs officer Jill Hazelbaker said there was a need for streamlining.
"As we've grown, parts of the organization have become too complex and fragmented, with overlapping responsibilities, unclear ownership, and teams operating too far from the businesses and partners they support," Hazelbaker told employees.
Chief Executive Dara Khosrowshahi told Uber leaders he believed the changes are necessary to improve the People and Places team's effectiveness.
