EU's Tech Sovereignty Push Could be Costly, Chamber of Progress Says -- Market Talk

Dow Jones06-03 23:49

1548 GMT - The EU's push to promote its own tech sovereignty and bolster local digital infrastructure could be costly, according to the Chamber of Progress, a trade group that counts companies including Amazon and Alphabet's Google as corporate partners. "With its Tech Sovereignty Package the European Commission is responding to Trump's instability and the continued threat to international trade," Kay Jebelli, the group's vice president for Europe, says. "The proposal is understandable, but the framework it would establish has a lot of holes that could lead to protectionism, which ultimately means more fragmentation, fewer opportunities to scale, and fewer opportunities for startups."
