Shares of NRx Pharmaceuticals slid after the company proposed a public offering of its common stock.

The stock retreated 19% to $3.74 after hours. Shares had gained 70% year-to-date when the market closed.

The biopharmaceutical company said after the closing bell Tuesday that it intends to offer an unspecified number of shares. It would use the proceeds for working capital and general corporate purposes to support growth.

NRx said it would grant the offering's underwriter a 30-day option to buy an additional 14% of the shares it sells during the offering.
