Meta Platforms Expands Teen Content Settings on Instagram, Facebook, Messenger Globally

Meta Platforms (META) said Tuesday that it is expanding its 13+ settings to teen accounts globally across Instagram, Facebook and Messenger to prevent children from accessing inappropriate content.

The company said that it will hide content unsuitable for teens in Facebook's Feed and Reels, and limit teens' ability to access Profiles, Pages, Groups, and Events that primarily post such material.

Meta said that on Messenger, the default setting will limit teens' ability to view links to inappropriate Facebook content or to chat with accounts that primarily share such content.

Meta said it will make Limited Content, an even more restrictive setting, available on Facebook and Messenger later this year.

The company added that it is also testing a feature that will ensure teen accounts are not repeatedly shown certain content and instead attempt to provide them with a more balanced feed.
