Bitcoin Drop Wipes $20 Billion Off the Value of U.S. Government Holdings -- WSJ

Uncle Sam's bitcoin stash has lost about half its value over the past eight months, declining to $20.8 billion from a peak of $40.7 billion in early October, when the cryptocurrency was at an all-time high, according to data provider Glassnode.

The U.S. government has amassed substantial bitcoin holdings over the years through the seizure of criminal assets. In March 2025, President Trump ordered the creation of a strategic bitcoin reserve, fulfilling a promise he made to the cryptocurrency industry during his election campaign.
