Cash App Launches Plastic Wand as Payment Alternative for Cardholders

Cash App has unveiled a plastic wand that customers can use to pay with instead of a card.

The new product, called Cash App Tags, are meant to appeal to Gen Z, as they are shaped like a wand with a star and come with a keychain.

The $25 Tags are NFC-enabled, meaning they can securely make payments when tapped at a typical credit card processor. Customers must have a Cash App debit card to activate a Tag.

The Tags will work wherever Visa tap to pay is accepted, Cash App said.

Cash App said the product is designed to make payments more quickly and easily without taking out a cell phone or wallet.

Cash App has invested in attracting young customers to its debit card. It said 1 in 5 U.S. teens now have a Cash App Card, making it the most popular debit card among that age cohort.

The payments company, which is owned by Block, said it plans to launch limited runs of new Tag designs to Cash App cardholders. The Tag will become generally available later this summer.
