American Battery Shares Jump on Energy Department Victory

Dow Jones06-08

Shares of American Battery Technology jumped after the company said it had won an appeal with the U.S. Department of Energy to get a federal grant reinstated.

The stock rose 32% to $4.12 on Monday. Shares are now in positive territory year to date.

The critical-mineral manufacturing company said before the opening bell that the DOE reinstated its competitive grant award to support a $115 million project for the construction of the first phase of a commercial-scale critical-mineral lithium refinery.

The grant was previously terminated as part of a broad DOE sweep that canceled hundreds of awards, even though American Battery had already completed its first two years of contracted milestones. The company submitted an appeal in October to reverse the cancellation.
