Microsoft-backed (MSFT) OpenAI is preparing to shift its focus toward AI agents, coding tools and business-oriented products as it seeks new revenue streams ahead of a potential public listing, the Financial Times reported Sunday.
According to the report, the update will transform ChatGPT into a broader platform that combines conversational AI, coding capabilities, image generation, and third-party applications.
The rollout is expected to begin in the coming weeks across ChatGPT's web and mobile apps, the report added.
The Financial Times said a key element of the strategy is expanding the role of Codex, OpenAI's coding product.
OpenAI plans for its AI models to automatically determine users' intent and route tasks to the most appropriate tools over time, it added.
OpenAI did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
