Indexes' Longer-Term Evolution Could Be Key Investor Issue Amid More Mega IPOs -- Market Talk

Dow Jones06-08

0716 GMT - The longer-term evolution of benchmark index compositions amid a growing pipeline of potential mega initial public offerings could be an important issue for investors, says T. Rowe Price's Rahul Ghosh in commentary. These mega IPOs are likely to be included in global benchmarks, which could modestly increase the U.S. weighting in these indexes and further strengthen their exposure to sectors linked to technology, software, artificial intelligence and aerospace, the global equities portfolio specialist says. This could concentrate global equity indexes in a narrower group of U.S. growth and AI-related companies, he says. Investors might therefore need to pay closer attention to diversification, benchmark risk and portfolio construction as more mega-caps get listed, he says. (megan.cheah@wsj.com)
