PG&E (PCG) said Thursday it has surpassed 1 million customer solar interconnections, the highest total of any US utility.
The utility said more than 500,000 new solar systems were connected between 2020 and 2025, with over 70,000 installations added annually over the past two years.
PG&E said it is increasingly focused on integrating rooftop solar with battery storage and virtual power plants, which allow customer-owned energy resources to support grid reliability during periods of high demand.
The company highlighted a 2025 virtual power plant test conducted with partners including Sunrun and Tesla that delivered 535 megawatts of electricity to California's grid during peak demand periods.
