TransAlta's New Colorado Asset Seen Strengthening Long-Term Strategy -- Market Talk

Dow Jones06-10

9:23 ET - TransAlta's acquisition of Colorado gas plant assets may not have been popular with investors, but it is a low-risk move that strengthens the company's long-term profile, RBC analyst Maurice Choy says. In a report, the analyst says the assets resemble regulated utility infrastructure with stable, long-duration cash flows. Choy says the deal advances TransAlta's strategy to increase contracted Ebitda, expand in its core markets and build a more predictable earnings base. The transaction "moves TransAlta towards its desired direction," including boosting contractedness to at least 70% and supporting "better cash flow stability" over time.
