Toyota Motor Corp. will establish a new research facility dedicated to next-generation technologies such as humanoid robots in Toyota, Aichi Prefecture, sources said. Completion is scheduled for March 2028.
The company aims to improve development efficiency by consolidating functions and personnel currently dispersed across Shizuoka Prefecture, Tokyo and other locations including its headquarters in Aichi Prefecture.
Construction is underway at the site of a former Toyota leisure complex that closed in 2022. The new facility's site will cover approximately 730,000 square meters, with a total floor area of 25,000 square meters. The investment amount has not been disclosed.
The facility will serve as a hub for the "Toyota Frontier Research Center," which conducts research on next-generation technologies, with plans to initially employ about 300 people and eventually expand to approximately 400.
The Toyota Frontier Research Center is engaged in the research and development of future practical applications of technologies primarily targeting fields outside of automobile production, such as humanoid robots and construction site process simulators.
Toyota has also identified robotics as one of its key focus areas.
